We optimize your warehouse logistics

Efficient warehouse management is the key to low costs and smooth processes. SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) offers you a powerful solution for managing stocks transparently, automating processes and making optimum use of warehouse space. With our SAP EWM consulting, we support you from strategy to successful implementation.

Efficient warehouse management with SAP Extended Warehouse Management

Modern warehouse management requires a challenging level of efficiency, transparency, automation and flexibility. More and more companies are facing the challenge of coping with increasing demands in logistics with existing systems.

SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) is the answer to these requirements: It enables end-to-end control and optimization of warehouse processes – from incoming goods inspection to picking and delivery.

Why SAP EWM?

Are you still using older warehouse management solutions such as SAP WM? Then you probably know that the maintenance for this module under SAP ECC expires in 2027. This raises the question: Which warehouse management solution will take you safely into the future?

SAP EWM offers far more than a classic warehouse management system. It optimizes warehouse processes through intelligent automation, real-time data and comprehensive integration with SAP S/4HANA. With SAP EWM, you can make your warehouse management more efficient, transparent and future-proof.

SAP EWM offers these advantages

SAP EWM offers much more than a classic warehouse management system. It optimizes warehouse processes through intelligent automation, real-time data and comprehensive integration into SAP S/4HANA. With SAP EWM, you can make your warehouse management more efficient, transparent and future-proof.

1

Cost savings through optimized warehouse processes

By managing stock, orders and resources more efficiently, companies can significantly reduce their warehouse and personnel costs. SAP EWM helps to avoid excess stock, make better use of warehouse space and reduce labor costs.

2

Increased transparency of stocks and goods movements

Companies gain real-time insight into stocks, material flows and warehouse processes. This transparency enables better planning and control of the entire supply chain.

3

Flexible scaling - suitable for any company size

SAP EWM is highly scalable and can be used in small warehouses as well as in multinational corporations with several locations.

4

Efficient use of storage space

The system supports intelligent space allocation for incoming goods, which optimizes the use of space and reduces unnecessary routes.

5

Seamless integration with SAP S/4HANA

6

Mobility and user-friendliness

SAP EWM supports mobile devices so that warehouse employees can control processes directly on site. The intuitive user interface facilitates operation and familiarization, reducing errors and speeding up processes.

SAP WM vs. SAP EWM and SAP Stock Room Management

SAP WM under SAP ECC is fundamentally different from SAP EWM. The changeover opens up many new possibilities, but also involves a considerable amount of change. Functionalities, transactions, Fiori apps, processes, organizational units and interfaces have been redesigned and adapted to the requirements of modern warehouse management. Is the changeover worth it? And what alternatives are there?

SAP Stock Room Management:
The bridge solution

SAP Stock Room Management is an alternative to SAP EWM under SAP S/4HANA. The functionality is similar to SAP WM, but the range of functions is very limited. This solution may be sufficient for very simple warehouse processes. However, as no further development is planned by SAP, Stock Room Management is not a long-term option for modern warehouse management.

SAP EWM Basic:
The integrated standard solution

SAP EWM is already included in SAP S/4HANA in a basic version and can be used without additional licenses. This version is suitable for companies with clearly structured, less complex warehouse processes. However, if you need more flexibility and extended functions, you should consider SAP EWM Advanced.

SAP EWM Advanced:
The future-proof warehouse management system

The Advanced version of SAP EWM offers a significantly expanded range of functions, including automation, real-time data and intelligent warehouse strategies. This solution is highly scalable and can be used for both small warehouse locations and multinational corporations. However, additional licenses are required for the Advanced version.

Use cases: SAP EWM in practice

The introduction of SAP EWM enables efficient and automated warehouse management. But what does this look like in practice? Here are some concrete examples of how companies benefit directly from the solution:

Automation through digitalization

With SAP EWM, warehouse processes can be fully digitized and automated. This begins with goods receipt, continues with quality inspection and ends with the optimal placement of goods in the warehouse. Automatic storage and retrieval processes reduce errors and shorten throughput times.

SAP EWM supports mobile devices for digital order processing directly in the warehouse. Employees can record scans, goods receipts, order picking and inventories directly via mobile devices. This improves process accuracy and significantly reduces paper consumption.

More and more companies are relying on automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to optimize intralogistics. SAP EWM enables the seamless integration of these systems to control material flows in real time and enable the use of warehouse robots, automated guided vehicles and automated high-bay warehouses.

By using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, SAP EWM can create forecasts for warehouse stocks, identify bottlenecks at an early stage and minimize manual interventions. Generative AI reduces manual system interactions, allowing warehouse processes to be controlled even more efficiently.

Companies often use different warehouse management systems or external logistics service providers, which makes control complex. SAP EWM reduces the interfaces between warehouse management, transportation planning and logistics control by enabling a uniform material flow strategy. This allows routes to be optimized and processes to be automated.

Shared data in SAP EWM enables companies to work more closely with logistics service providers, suppliers and transportation partners. This improves the ability to plan goods receipts and goods issues and reduces storage costs and delays.
